The West Hempstead Union Free School District is preparing to reopen schools and is excited to welcome back its students on September 1. As we learned over the last year, students benefit from in-person learning with their educators and classmates, and their safe return has been our top priority.
Based on current CDC guidelines and recommendations, all students and staff will be returning to school for in-person instruction. There will be no hybrid or full remote option implemented at this time. One of the mitigation factors we are implementing will be the use of face masks indoors. Regardless of vaccination status, wearing masks indoors is mandatory for all students, staff, teachers, and visitors. When riding in school buses, all occupants will be required to wear face masks. Whenever possible, we are maintaining a physical distancing of 3 feet in all school spaces. Music and physical education will use the 6-foot marker.
We have received feedback from our school community and will provide all students access to school meals each day and enforce appropriate rules for social distancing. In addition, we will continue to adhere to health and safety protocols, including maximizing ventilation, practicing good hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette, and cleaning and disinfecting high-touch surfaces.
Please do not forget our Friday, August 27 Back to School and Community Event from 12 pm – 3 pm. Stop by and join us at the HS to participate in activities such as a photo booth, art booth, lawn games, book swap, mindfulness, and music! Food and drink will be available, and we will have ice cream for a special treat. Kosher options will be available.
We will provide our staff, students, and families with information about our reopening plan and any modifications throughout the 2021-22 school year.
