For the first time, fifth graders at George Washington School in West Hempstead led a daylong writing conference for their parents last month.
Parents sat down with their children in the library and classrooms throughout the school as students led a discussion on stories that they read. They also spoke about their favorite part of the writing process, specific goals that they would like to achieve in writing, why they selected their book and how they have grown as a writer since September.
After the conference, students went around the classrooms to read their classmates’ stories.
