Dear George Washington Families,
I am writing to extend a warm welcome to you and your family as we begin this exciting new school year at George Washington. I am honored to be your new principal and eager to meet and work with this incredible school community. As we embark on our journey together, I am inspired by the district mantra of Ram Pride. It is with enthusiasm that I embrace this spirit of unity, growth, and achievement and invite you all to reflect on how we can bring our mantra of Ram Pride to life at George Washington.
What does it mean to be a Ram? In my research, I discovered three important characteristics of a ram that are connected to the habits of mind we strive to cultivate within our students:
● Rams have excellent vision
● Rams are extremely agile and nimble - very flexible given any context
● Rams have high levels of endurance, especially when facing a climb
These characteristics are a metaphor for the core habits of mind every stakeholder in our school - faculty, staff, families, and students - should apply to all learning experiences and interactions within our community.
As principal, my goal with our faculty and staff at George Washington is to design learning experiences that foster these habits and characteristics as we prepare our students for matriculation to secondary school. We will demonstrate these three core habits by focusing on the following guiding principles for this school year:
● Persisting: All Rams are committed to their goals and persevere in the process of meeting or exceeding them.
● Thinking Flexibly: All Rams work together to be flexible and responsive as we work together to foster a supportive and inclusive environment where every student can thrive.
● Thinking and Communicating with Clarity & Precision: All Rams will engage in productively challenging work that improves their skill and endurance, in collaboration with other learners and supporters in the community.
Together, these guiding principles will shape our partnership in service of cultivating a vibrant and engaging learning community where every individual is valued and empowered to succeed. So many exciting possibilities lie ahead for us at George Washington. I look forward to working with each of you and your students this year to show our Ram Pride!
Please feel free to reach out to me anytime with your thoughts, questions, or ideas. Warm Regards,
Ms. Robyn Milliner
