On Sept. 11, George Washington School in West Hempstead promoted kindness and unity at their back to school assembly.
Students and teachers gathered in the school’s auditorium as Principal Ms. Michelle Notti discussed elements of the district’s Habits of Mind program, which nourishes students’ social-emotional learning and aims to improve the performance of students under challenging conditions. Prior to the assembly, George Washington took a moment reflect on Sept. 11, 2001.
Teachers then took turns in reading the novel, “Each Kindness,” by Jacqueline Woodson, which promotes antibullying and shows that small acts of kindness can change the world.
