The West Hempstead School District’s Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council made a presentation to board members during the district’s board of Education meeting on March 8.
Civic engagement, advocacy and the art of written/oral persuasion were on full display as West Hempstead’s scholars from grades three to 12 presented their arguments. SSAC members proposed new school furniture, healthier lunch options, additional after-school programs and allocating funds toward traditional teaching and project-based learning.
District administrators, principals throughout the district and parents applauded the students for sharing their proposal with the board of education.
