In conjunction with Fire Prevention Month, pre-K and kindergarten students at Chestnut Street School in West Hempstead explored the importance of fire safety on Oct. 16. Members of the West Hempstead Fire Department visited the building and reviewed fire and emergency protocol such as calling for help and staying out of harm’s way.
As a special highlight, students toured an actual fire truck in the school parking lot. With assistance getting in and out, they entered the truck, walked around it and learned about the tools, equipment and uniforms that are used to put out a fire.
