Principal's Message

Dear Cornwell Avenue Families,

Hello! I hope you all have had a happy and healthy summer. I am excited for a new year at Cornwell Avenue Elementary School – the new Primary Center! Our school will serve first through third grades for West Hempstead families. The past two years have been such an incredible gift and I am thrilled for year three, for our new structure and an incredible and memorable year for us all! Getting to know your children and watching them grow is an honor I will never take for granted. I will say it and mean it EVERY YEAR.

This year should prove to be full of excitement, boundless achievements and great accomplishments. I look forward to getting to know our new first-graders, as well as our new friends coming over from George Washington, and seeing how much our second- and third-graders have grown over the summer!

I am incredibly confident that together with our new staff members, we will make monumental progress for all of our children this year. We will prepare them for what lies ahead; we will read, write and think every day and we will ensure success academically, socially and emotionally. Every Child, Every Day, Any Way!

An enormous part of a school community is cohesion among administration, staff, parents and students. I assure you that I am fully dedicated to this warm, nurturing environment where students can grow and flourish and a place where you, the parents, will feel welcomed and appreciated. I am a “hands-on” leader and am very involved with the students. I will be in and out of classrooms to participate, listen, observe and spend time with your children. I will know the name of every child at Cornwell! I began my career in education because of my love for children and a belief in their abilities. This will never change. I anticipate remarkable things this school year!

Our new school times this upcoming year are 9:05 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. I will send a phone message as the year grows closer to let you know about which doors each grade will be dismissed through. Breakfast will begin at 8:35 a.m. Please do not drop children off before that time. We have a “kiss and go” procedure in the morning, so if your child does not take a bus, please pull up to the front door where staff will be waiting to receive your child. Please then proceed around the parking lot to exit back at the front entrance. For everyone’s safety and to help the flow of student arrival, we ask that parents stay in their cars and do not make U-turns. We will make an exception for the first day of school, however, when we will be welcoming our students on the Cornwell Red Carpet! Dress for success!

I would like to invite you to join our PTA, a crucial component of the West Hempstead School District. The first meeting is scheduled for September 24 at 7:30 p.m. in our cafeteria. As parents, your input will be an invaluable part of our school governance and community. The first SEPTA meeting will be held at Cornwell Avenue on September 26 at 7:30 p.m. Please also plan on joining us for the West Hempstead homecoming parade on September 22. We will meet to march together at 10:30 a.m. in front of Chestnut Street School.

I cannot wait to meet you on September 12 at 6:30 p.m. for our Back-to-School Night, and I look forward to an extraordinary year. Please always feel free to come to me with any questions, comments or concerns you may have. My door is always open! You can also email me at dsinito@whufsd.com.

Sincerely,

Deanna Sinito
